A Word from Franky
In November 2022, I began receiving hateful comments on social media simply because of my last name, and for the first time in my life, I was scared to be visibly Jewish. I started speaking up on TikTok, even though the hateful comments increased by 100 times, the hate was quickly drowned out by the support from millions of people of all faiths. While many Jewish Americans began watching my content, I still yearned for a sense of community that social media couldn't provide.
Feeling the need to connect on a deeper level, I made a spontaneous decision to book a one-way ticket to Israel, a place I had never visited before. To my surprise, as soon as I arrived, I immediately felt at home. The sense of belonging was overwhelming, and it reinforced my desire to recreate that feeling of community elsewhere.
Upon my return to America in late April 2023, I founded Nice Jewish with the idea of bringing people together to build a community not only for Jewish people, but for all nice people. Just a few days after landing in NYC, I posted a TikTok, hoping to organize a Nice Jewish meetup for 20-30 people. Astonishingly, within 48 hours, over 250+ individuals purchased tickets and showed up, marking the first Nice Jewish event.
Since then, thousands of Jewish people from around the world have applied to join and volunteered to help host Nice Jewish events in their cities. It's been an incredible journey, and I'm grateful for the overwhelming support and the opportunity to create a sense of community for people like myself.
